Natural pain-relief for horses
NatureBute® Solution is a more concentrated and more readily available tincture form of NatureBute® Powder, and has the added benefit of extracts of the warming spices ginger and turmeric, with black pepper to aid absorption.
NatureBute® Solution contains Boswellia serrata - known as ‘nature’s bute’, and the two warming spices Zingiber officinale (ginger) and Curcumin longa (turmeric) – both well known for their beneficial effects. Piper nigrum (black pepper) is added for its ability to increase the bioavailability of curcumin (the main active component of turmeric), as well as for its own beneficial effects.
Like NatureBute® Powder, NatureBute® Solution offers a gentle but effective natural solution for hard-working joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons. NatureBute® Solution supports the body’s natural anti-inflammatory and pain mechanisms/responses. NatureBute® Solution is also suitable for a variety of other types of health support, including digestive, skin, and respiratory support.
For joint and mobility support, use NatureBute® Solution first, for more instant results, and then follow longer term with NatureBute® Powder or FlexiMover®. For horses and ponies that require extra ongoing support, use NatureBute® Solution long-term. NatureBute® Solution can be fed with compound feed, without worrying about loss of powder.

Boswellia for horses, ginger for horses, turmeric for horses and black pepper for horses support the musculoskeletal system and maintain optimum mobility and flexibility. All three are well known natural solutions for hard-working joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons, due to their effectiveness in supporting the body’s natural anti-inflammatory and pain mechanisms/responses. All three also have a variety of other health benefits, including digestive, skin and respiratory supporting actions.
Extracts from boswellia gum or tree resin, namely boswellic acids, have been traditionally used in the Ayurvedic system for a whole range of activities that have since been the focus of research. How boswellia works is now well understood, with a great deal of in vitro studies carried out and reported in scientific literature.
Medical treatments for equine joints are well-known to cause a disruption in the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans - key structural components of joint cartilage. This leads in the longer term to acceleration in joint degradation and arthritis. Boswellia serrata does not have this damaging effect on cartilage.
Ginger has also been traditionally used in the Ayurvedic system, and, like for boswellia, research into a variety of activities has also provided evidence of its usefulness. Its extract contains the active ingredients oleo-resins and oils. Ginger supports the body’s natural anti-inflammatory processes, and it has been the focus of research into joint support in human patients. Compared with a powder, a tincture of ginger concentrates the active components.
Turmeric extract consists of yellow pigments called curcuminoids, mainly the polyphenol curcumin. A small amount of oils and resins are also present. Curcumin has a direct effect on inflammatory mediators as well as being a powerful antioxidant. It is well known for its ability to support the body’s natural anti-inflammatory processes. Curcumin is the subject of a large number of research trials, and many clinical trials have been carried out, with encouraging results. Turmeric powder is messy to handle and stains skin and clothing. A tincture form concentrates the active components and makes the benefits of the spice much easier to supply.
Pepper is a well-known spice with powerful antioxidant properties, due mainly to its piperine content. Piperine enhances the bioavailability of other compounds, including curcumin, so it is recommended to be fed along with curcumin. Preliminary research shows that piperine can potentiate the beneficial effects of curcumin, presumably by increasing its availability.
My horse was diagnosed with burstitis of the nuchal ligament, right at the poll. It's incredibly rare so we're all in the dark. After vet diagnostics he was treated with a steroid injection at the site to help reduce the inflammation. Unfortunately this wore off within 5 weeks and (although milder) his symptoms (headshaking, tension, lateral walk) returned. Vets couldn't help at that early stage so I ordered some naturebute solution to see if that could help until his next steroid injection could be performed.
He's been on it for three weeks, I did the 10 day loading dose of 25ml twice a day just to give him all the help I could, and his symptoms have gone again. I'm delighted that he's comfortable and will be continuing this rather than taking the steroid route.
I had heard of boswellia and after researching came across NatureBute, I bought the powder. Within two weeks I could see signs that she was more comfortable and after three weeks I was able to start bringing her back into work and she was amazing.
Sadly due to the extent of her condition and extra bone growth she is now showing some neurological signs, but I have switched her to Naturebute Solution, increased the serving and she is now comfortable again. My girl will stay on this now for the rest of the time I have her. I would highly recommend it.
My horses are still going from strength to strength with it, Tornado the current Advanced Medium/ Prix St George horse is thriving on it, his coat is also looking better than ever and his energy levels have improved no end on it to be honest, his stride length seems to have increased and he is definitely much freer in his shoulders. The older 22 year old seems to have a new lease of life and is completely sound on this solution and again his energy levels have increased hugely, he always was a forward horse until the last year where he didn't want to really do his party trick of his extended but a month on this product and he is not only showing off his extended trot but he has been happy to piaffe (the highest collected movement in Grand Prix) and his moods have improved and is less grumpy in the mornings.
NatureBute Solution I have to say is far better and more easily absorbed than the powder. I have noticed that the horses seem to have better appetites and eat all their feed. In addition, their droppings are normal whereas with the powder they were loose. The stable stiffness of our 22 year old horse has improved and he warms up more quickly. I have used 50 ml for a week then went down to 25ml.
The Championship horse Tornado is on the same amount and the most interesting thing in him is that his energy has improved no end and I have even had to take him off the competition cubes and put him on a more basic feed. He shows no signs of tiredness or soreness after a major competition and is just more alert and free in his body.
I wrote to you last week regarding boswellia for footiness in my barefoot horse and just wanted to update you.
Although I've only been giving my footy boy the loading amaount for 7 days, I just wanted to say that there is definitely a big improvement. When leading him to the barn from his field, he would always choose the softer ground and was clearly uncomfortable across the stone drive. Now he walks across harder ground and although careful across the stones (as he should be) he is more interested in what is around him than where he is walking - very unusual for him!
I hacked him out twice over the weekend (booted) and both times he was striding out so well we did the hack in half the time! even booted he wasn't quite right before. It's early days, but I am very impressed so far by NatureBute Solution.
This product is amazing! I have a 16.3 hunter that was scheduled to be put to sleep. We decided to give her one last chance and managed to control her pain with 4 sachets of danilon a day plus twice daily accupressure. We were able to gradually reduce this until we were at the point where she was still having the daily accupressure, however, she was still in full rest at this point. In order to start building her fitness level up we started giving her 10mls daily of the Naturebute Solution and she remained sound walking out for twenty mins three times weekly. She enjoyed her work and was building up muscle nicely, however, she was not cantering at this point and we thought her jumping days were far behind her. We were very happily proven wrong! Sophie rallied and is now doing canter hacks and cross country. She is a very happy horse indeed with many thanks to NatureBute!
