Pegasus Salmon Oil is a 100% natural supplement for working dogs that is highly palatable and a rich source of omega-3 essential fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).
Made from sustainably sourced Atlantic salmon (Salmon salar) reared in Scottish sea lochs under carefully controlled natural and environmentally compatible conditions, Pegasus Salmon Oil is environmentally-friendly and ethically sourced. For this reason, Pegasus Salmon Oil is a better choice than cod liver oil, which is made from a type of wild fish whose numbers are dwindling. Pegasus Salmon Oil is gently extracted in a carefully controlled process that produces clear, clean oil, which then has a natural tocopherol antioxidant added to protect it.
The high levels of essential omega-3 fatty acids provided by Pegasus Salmon Oil makes up for common shortages in the diet, which can, if not supplemented, lead to skin, haircoat and immunity challenges. Supplementing Pegasus Salmon Oil maintains skin health and produces a lustrous shiny coat. Pegasus Salmon Oil helps to balance out the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 FA in the diet, which, if unbalanced, exacerbates natural inflammation. This balancing of omega-6 FA is the reason why adding omega-3 FA can support more healthy natural anti-inflammatory processes in the body. The omega-3 FA found in Pegasus Salmon Oil, unlike those found in flaxseed oil, do not have to be converted in the body – they are in a format that can be used directly.

Fish oils have been used for many years in human and animal nutrition for their health-promoting properties. Most of us are aware that oily-fleshed fish are good for us, and the reason is that they supply high levels of essential fatty acids (EFA), without enough of which we and our pets will suffer deficiencies.
Essential fatty acids
Neither our nor our pet’s bodies can synthesize omega-3 or omega-6 fatty acids (FA), which are essential for optimum health, so we have to obtain them from our diets. Omega-6 fatty acids (derived from linoleic acid) and omega-3 fatty acids (derived from alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)) are converted in the body to longer chain FA called EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). These compounds are used in cell membrane structure and hormone-like compounds called eicosanoids.
Skin contains about 10% lipid by weight, and shortages in EFA causes structural failure and a scaling of the skin. Other symptoms of EFA deficiency include hair loss, weak hair, poor wound healing, poor reproductive rates, and stunted growth.
EPA and DHA are metabolized into a range of compounds including a group called eicosanoids, which are very active in the body. Eicosanoids affect smooth muscle contraction, blood platelet adhesion, blood vessel dilation and constriction, and immune function. Altering dietary intake of omega-6 and omega-3 FA affects the compounds produced, and as a result, the effect in the body. Overall, the activity of eicosanoids produced from omega-3 FA is less than that of omega-6 FA, and an overall intake ratio of no more than 4 parts omega-6 to 1 part omega-3 FA is recommended for humans. Omega-3 FA affect levels of inflammatory mediators and have the effect of reducing inflammatory responses.
Most diets supply plenty of omega-6 fatty acids but often the amount of omega-3 fatty acids is short. Flaxseed is rich in ALA, which is converted in the body into EPA and DHA, and fish oils are rich in EPA and DHA.
EPA and DHA in Scottish salmon oil
Fish oils are such a useful source of EFA because they directly supply EPA and DHA – there is no need for conversion of ALA in the body. Cod liver oil used to be the choice of fish oil for promoting health, but more recently a sustainable source is available in the form of salmon oil. The added benefit of salmon oil over cod liver oil is that it doesn’t contain the very high levels of vitamins A and D found in cod liver oil, which can add risky amounts to the diet. Vitamin A is toxic if overfed so care must be taken when feeding cod liver oil.
Pegasus Salmon Oil is a 100% natural supplement for working dogs that is highly palatable and a rich source of the essential omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. Made from sustainably sourced Atlantic salmon reared in Scottish sea lochs under carefully controlled natural and environmentally compatible conditions, Pegasus Salmon Oil is environmentally-friendly and ethically sourced, and uses farmed salmon to reduce pressure on declining wild stocks. Farming practices for Scottish Salmon have the highest standards, and over 90% of the salmon produced are grown under the RSPCA Freedom Foods scheme.
The oil is gently extracted in a carefully controlled process that produces clear, clean oil, which then has a natural tocopherol antioxidant added to protect it. It is not possible for fish oil to be ‘cold-pressed’ in the same way as seeds such as flax. The process of oil extraction is completely different.
Pegasus Salmon Oil naturally contains higher levels of both EPA and DHA than Norwegian salmon oil, due to the better quality of the Scottish salmon diet.
Adding Pegasus Salmon Oil to your dog or cat’s diet helps to balance out the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 FA, which, if left unbalanced, can exacerbate natural inflammation. It is a rich source of health-promoting omega-3 EPA and DHA, which help support healthy skin and haircoat, healthy heart and lung function, and a strong immune system, and maintain general health and vitality.
Bright eyed and bushy tailed. This oil is fab, one of my dogs has dry flacky skin and after only a few days we could see a big diference. After two weeks my dogs coats had improved and now after a month they have great shiny coats, and they love the taste. The dispenser on the bottle is the best I have ever used, it's easy to measure the required amount and the bottle stays nice and clean. No mess. Would highly recomend this oil for your dogs, and am sure my dogs would too!
