Yea sacc for horses (Saccharomyces cerevisiae 1026) is a live yeast culture which has been scientifically proven to improve a horse’s ability to digest fibre (Glade & Sist 1987) and to increase microbial fermentation in the hind gut. Yea-Sacc for horses helps to stabilise the correct natural balance of good bacteria in the intestine, which the horse relies on for good gut health, digestive function and efficient immune function.
Pegasus Yea-Sacc contains a new concentrated form of the live yeast culture, which is fed at a much lower rate than the original yeast. Nutritious and palatable oat fibre and dried alfalfa are added to ensure an accurate feeding rate of the live yeast. Both ingredients are fibrous, safe and palatable inclusions that have been carefully selected to ensure that Pegasus Health® Yea-Sacc is highly palatable and effective. Oat fibre is a source of healthful soluble fibre, as well as being rich in B-complex vitamins, and alfalfa is rich in antioxidants carotenes, minerals including calcium, and contains highly digestible fibre.
Stabilises the hindgut
Yea-Sacc helps to stabilise the hindgut (caecum and colon) beneficial bacterial populations. A healthy, stable hindgut is imperative for horses to remain in optimum condition.
Nutrient absorptionYea-Sacc enhances the activity of fibre-digesting bacteria in the hindgut and increases their efficiency which in turn increases the digestibility of fibrous feeds. This means that horses and ponies taking this probiotic can make more efficient use of nutrients including vitamins and minerals derived from the forage portion of their diet.
Research shows that foals whose mothers are taking this supplement retain more nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus, and grow faster than foals of non-supplemented mares during their first four weeks of life.

Probiotic for horses Yea-Sacc® is a live yeast culture based on Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain 1026.
It has been scientifically proven to aid digestion so that a horse can make the best possible use of the nutritional contents of its diet.
The digestive system of the horse evolved to serve wild horses which grazed virtually all day on low-quality forage. But with domestication, the way we feed and keep horses has changed and this is what can affect the delicate balance of natural intestinal bacteria and yeast.
Years of extensive scientific research, conducted in collaboration with leading universities and equine research authorities across the world, led to Yea-Sacc® 1026 being granted full European Union authorisation as a feed additive for horses under Commission Regulation (EC) No. 886/2009 back in 2009.
Research found that this probiotic can increase the amount of energy released from a horse’s diet and made available to fuel muscles - making it a useful supplementary food for competition and sports horses.
Horses used for racing and eventing often get diets rich on high-starch cereals. Large amounts of starch can throw off the balance of ‘good’ bacteria in the hindgut.
Studies have also shown that probiotic for horses Yea-Sacc® 1026 can improve the digestion of protein and the absorption of calcium and phosphorous. All these factors are important for young horses that are still growing, and lactating mares, as well as horses undergoing high levels of work and exercise.
Healthy fermentation of food in the equine hindgut is essential in order for a horse to maintain a healthy immune system and extract the maximum amount of nutrients possible from its diet. Pegasus Yea-Sacc® 1026 boosts the effectiveness of the ‘good’ bacteria that digest bacteria in the hindgut while also supporting good digestive health.
Yea-Sacc 1026 for horses can help in any situation where stress has caused digestive disturbances in your horse. Stresses and strains caused by such things as competition, travel, illness or changes in environment and living arrangements can quickly upset the delicate balance of ‘good’ bacteria in the equine digestive system.
Probios for horses can be safely fed long-term and is suitable for elderly horses, and to support healthy hoof laminae, because it supports a healthy balance of the bacteria that consume lactic acid and as a result helps to avoid the swings of gut acid that are now said to be a factor in feet problems for horses and ponies.
Equine nutritionist John Chapman, of Gravenhorse Feeds, said that he has found that the probiotics products receiving the best testimonials from customers usually contain live yeast. Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been clearly shown to improve digestibility of a variety of feed ingredients (Glade et al 1987) and support good digestive tract health, he added.
